  Occupations in this minor group are primarily concerned with diagnosing and treating health problems in humans or animals.
 
D011 Specialist Physicians
  Occupations in this unit group are primarily concerned with diagnosing and treating specific types of diseases. Specialists in clinical medicine specialize in the treatment of specific areas or functions of the human body or the treatment of specific age groups or sexes. Specialists in surgery specialize in performing surgical procedures. Specialists in laboratory medicine specialize in studying the nature, causes and development of diseases in humans.
  Exclusions
  Family physicians and family doctors are classified in unit group D012 - General Practitioners and Family Physicians.
  Homeopathic practitioners are classified in unit group D232 - Midwives and Practitioners of Natural Healing.
  Medical directors are classified in unit group A321 - Managers in Health Care.
  Osteopathic surgeons and naturopathic physicians are classified in unit group D023 - Other Professional Occupations in Health Diagnosing and Treating.
  Chiropractors are classified in unit group D022 - Chiropractors.
  Dental surgeons are classified in unit group D013 - Dentists.

  Occupations in this unit group are primarily concerned with diagnosing and treating diseases, physiological disorders and injuries of patients, providing preventive health services to patients and referring patients to specialists when the diagnosis suggests that a specialist is required.
  Exclusions
  Other professional occupations in health diagnosing and treating such as podiatrists, chiropodists, naturopathic and osteopathic physicians are classified in unit group D023 - Other Professional Occupations in Health Diagnosing and Treating.
  Medical doctors specializing in a particular field of medicine are classified in unit group D011 - Specialist Physicians.
  Chiropractors are classified in unit group D022 - Chiropractors.
  Occupations in medicine and health such as acupuncturists, homeopathic practitioners, herbalists and rolfers are classified in unit group D232 - Midwives and Practitioners of Natural Healing.

  Occupations in this unit group are primarily concerned with preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases and disorders in animals and advising clients on the feeding, hygiene and general care of animals. Veterinarians who are also supervisors of animal hospitals, clinics or laboratories are included in this unit group.

  Veterinary and animal care technicians are classified in unit group D213 - Animal Health Technologists.
